IMHO it doesn't matter whether a console is next gen or not, even if it is not "top of the line", the playability, gameplay, and storyline are really all that matter in this sense. In fact im pretty disgusted with both companies trying to overcharge us with all this extra crap that we don't need/want on a console system, I would personally rather have a nice NORMAL DVD player and not some "high quality" DVD player i.e. Blueray or HDDVD. I wouldn't pay over $250 for any system (argubly i have an XBOX 360, but my brother knew someone who didn't want it and got a deal on it for $150).

Agreed.

Also, who cares about graphics? When you go back and play Super Mario or one of the old Zelda games (Link to the Past FTW!) you don't say "WTF? These graphics suxor!!!!" you say "This games is the pwnagest!"...ok stupid example. The point is that you play games to have fun. You don't play games to look at a virtual tree. Sure it looks good but is that really why you bought the game? Its a bonus but it really doesn't matter. Halo 3 gives a great mix of Gameplay and Graphics along with COD4. Gears did a great job but I never really did like Gears that much.

To some this up: Gameplay = Good
Graphics = Bonus

In all honesty i couldn't be bothered to read all your fancy posts, so i'm just going to tell you what exactly is win; The PS2, because it matches my big TV and plays DVD's.

Stuart, Dual Layer DVD is tiny... TINY. 9GBs isn't much. Dual Layer Blu Ray = 50GB. 9GB isn't enough to make a NEXT GEN FF game look good. You have to sacrifice a lot to make it fit. If the 360 was truly next gen, it wouldn't have to sacrifice ANYTHING, EVER. Period, end of discussion.
FF12 was only about 3.9 gigs and was still quite big for a PS2 game

and since we dont work for the company, we don't know how well they compress it, nor do we know how big the game itself is. let's wait and see til the game comes out okay? I think that's a fair statement

I will mention however that I am WELL AWARE the PS3 will outlast the 360, mainly due to the cell processor. I am not a fanboy of any console and I will acknowledge this. I am looking foward to what can be done with the PS3 in the future, it's still early days for the PS3 since it was the last of the consoles released this gen

The Cell CPU is a doomsday machine. That thing is SkyNet waiting to happen.

Stuart, we can make logical assumptions. Based on the models for FFXIII from the trailers, each character model is around 100,000+ polygons. If you compress down texture files let's say to 9:1, you will need to do 6 back retrievals. Notice, 3 back retrievals are missing, and that means the texture will lose AF ability, particle wrap, and sprite overlays (sprites will hurt the look of the game severely with all the particle effects)

Just look at GTA4 on the PS3 compared to the 360 version. The difference is obvious. FF13 will be about 40x worse if they compress it into one disk. It will have to be multidisk to even be worth it.

I remember reading that FFX nearly took up the entire DVD because the character models had higher poly counts than 12, which did more with texturing and bump mapping. I remember that because I was reading that they were going to have multiple endings, one for every love interest, but had to scrap that idea for space reasons and they didn't want it on 2 DVDs.

Yep, and to think that FF13 will fit on a measly 9GB disk, lol. They will have to use a dual layer BluRay to fit it even. MGS4 ran out of room on BluRay before the end.

The PS2? Yes, because it outputs HD and had cutting edge technology...

How about we all agree that 1.The PS2 is so far the best system ever released. That is because it has LOTS and LOTS of great games, it lasted 10 years (in technology, going 10 months without being outdated is a miracle). Sure it might not have the best graphics but it was still a great system.

2. The 360 may be inferior console wise but it DOES have a better line up of games than the PS3 and with what's been shown at E3...wow. I am sad that there will be no LBP on the 360. Though I guess Fallout 3 will make up for it...atleast if its as good as Oblivion was.

3. We all agree to disagree.

4. Teddy Bear Launchers are AWESOME!

Xbox live is awesome though. I agree Anarkii. Halo 3 broke records the first day it came out. I just prefer Microsoft instead of Sony. Just HOW many people are on PSN at a time. On Halo 3 at almost every time of the day there's 250k people on, same with COD4. Annnnyway, Xbox 360 still gets good games.

Yeah, I have never seen a thread where it ended with 'And thus ladies and gentlemen, X console is better and there is nothing more to discuss'.

What a lot of people still don't realize is that choice of consoles is based less on 'which is better', and more on :
a) Which has content I prefer more. This includes games, videos on demand etc.
b) Which consoles are my buddies using, so that I can play with them
c) Which company/console maker has left a good impression on me in the past

There should be a separate 360 thread and PS3 thread if people want to discuss stuff. A Console Wars thread(that this has turned into) is pretty much pointless.

The PS3 is always about "potential", you know, unexperienced, not-yet-maxed-out potential but all that is bullshit. Wonderful technology, killer hardware doesn't suffice if programming such a machine is a total mess and pretty complicated. Most programmers aren't ready yet to even master parallel-programming.

Sony paired their "godly" Cell with a NV70 derivate while Nvidia actually offered them a G80 derivate. It might have been more expensive but it would have actually screwed the XBOX360 pretty pretty much.

If you have a decent PC then I'd choose a PS3 due to its exclusive titles like MGS4/GT5 etc. since many XBOX titles are also released on PC with better options to choose from.

If not then go for an XBOX360 as it clearly has more decent games to offer.

On MGS4, great game btw I bought PS3 just for that, well they came together in a boxset. Anyway I read somewhere that the guy that directed it didn't want to use any compression for the sounds and movie clips in the game at all. Hence they ran out of space on the blueray.

The reason MGS4 used up a full dual layer disk is because Konami chose to use uncompressed audio, and that is ALOT of uncompressed audio.

That is the last I will say on this, as I plan on waiting til it comes out before I comment on how good or bad FF13 is on the 360 since we can make all the assumptions in the world but nothings fact unless it comes from the makers themselfs

edit: Oh sorry Etta, I didn't see you mentioned about the MGS4 bit as well.
